Lurline Howard, 91, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Nocona General Hospital. She as born November 12, 1916 to Rowland and Mary Howard at Spanish Fort, TX. She married H. Clyde Howard on November 15, 1936. Lurline and Clyde had one daughter, Mary Ruth, who survives her mother. Lurline worked at the Linda Jo Shoe Factory in Gainesville and Nocona Boot Company. She was an avid gardener while able. Lurline was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star in both Spanish Fort and Nocona, having served as Worthy Matron of the Spanish Fort Chapter. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Lurline was extremely interested in family genealogy and collected much history of the James Carter Howard’s who came to Montague County Texas in 1872 with their 10 kids. She worked to record her part of the Sam Howard ranch in the Family Land Heritage Program, honoring families who had farms and ranches in continuous operation for over 100 years. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Nocona with Rev. Larry Kruger officiating. Burial followed in the Nocona Cemetery, under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home. In addition to her daughter, Lurline is survived by; one sister-in-law, Ruby Nell Howard; three nieces, Shirley Howard, Donna Rice and Marilyn Talley; very special nieces and nephews, Max and Sue Ann Brown and Pat and Jerry Wylie; nieces and nephews, Jeannie and Walter Birchfield, Steve and Secret Howard, Jim and Penny Howard, Debbie and Greg Ishmael, and Pam and Phillip Allen. Lurline was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; sisters, Shielah Cook and Sue Bagley; and brothers S.E. and C.R. Howard. Pallbearers were Tim Howard, Steve Howard, Hank Howard, Danny Howard, Jimmy Howard and Bryan Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Dale Howard and Phil Howard.
