Evelyn Harper quietly passed away in Nocona, Texas, on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the age of 90 years. She was buried Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in a private ceremony officiated by Donald Cheshier.Family and friends gathered September 19, 2020 for a memorial service officiated by her grandson-in-law Zack Randles, Pastor of Waterfront Church DC in Washington DC. Evelyn was born January 5, 1930 to Cammie and Zena McIntyre.She lived in Cotton County, Oklahoma until marrying Daniel Harper in 1947. Dan's work in the oilfield had them moving throughout the Midwest until 1960 when they settled in Midland, Texas. When Dan retired in 1988, they moved to Nocona, Texas, and became members of Bethel Baptist Church. Both Dan and Evelyn were avid readers of western novels, especially Louis L'Amour's books. Dan passed away in 2004. Evelyn, not being one to travel and go much, stayed busy at home with her little dog, Diesel. She enjoyed working in her yard (where Iris of all shapes and colors burst out in spring), baking angel food cakes, reading, writing letters, and crocheting personalized doilies (the last count was 479). Evelyn enjoyed collecting Matchbox cars, Mickey Mouse memorabilia, and buttons. She was a charter member of the California Raisin Fan Club and followed NASCAR for many years. Evelyn is survived by daughter, Dawn Kitchens, her husband Jess, and their children, Bryan Basse and Fred Kitchens-Koozer; daughter, Danell Hughes, her husband Don, and their children, Amber Hughes and Autumn Randles; and daughter, Deirdre ("Dee") Hazle, and her children, Deric, Hazle and Kimberlee Garcia;In addition, she had 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; Evelyn also leaves behind three special cousins, Shirley Kriez of Olympia Washington; Shelby Worley of Placerville California; and Janie Mitchell of Duncan, Oklahoma.
