Charles Lee Gilmore born on May 22, 1933 in Temple, TX and died on December 23, 2022 in Denton, Texas. Charles met Loretta in 1952 in Temple Texas where they were both attending Temple Junior College. They married November 27, 1954 in Mayodan North Carolina (where Dad met Mom's family for the 1st time)..and returned to Texas to live in Wichita Falls until 1957 when Dad was transferred by Republic Supply to Nocona Texas where he became the Nocona store manager. They remained in Nocona until 1977 when Dad became District Manager for Republic Supply in Wichita Falls and moved to Burkburnett Texas. Dad retired from Republic Supply in 1985. He later went to work for Tumbleweed Specialties in 1986 and retired "again" in 2016. They moved to Denton in 2017. He is survived by his children, Teri L. Bowman, Gail G. Yowell, Dean H. Gilmore, grandchildren, Sam Russell, Jody Odom, Ali Lundy, Haylee Carroll, Shanna Freeman, Britt Yowell and great-grandchildren, Matt Odom, Braden Carroll, Jake Russell, Lucille, Odom, Georgia Odom, Danica Carrol, Charley Yowell, Eloise Odom, Dorothy Odom, Greyson Russell, Hadley Russell, and Sunshine Freeman. Charles served the Navy during the Korean War. Served on the Nocona ISD School Board and the Nocona ISD Board of Equalization and was a 50+ year member of the Nocona Masonic Lodge #753. Nocona Boy Scouts Leader that took the Nocona Boy Scouts troop to the 50th National Jamboree in Colorado Springs CO in 1960. He could always be counted on to sell Camp Fire Candy, bake cakes, cookies or candies for Church or Rainbow Girls fund raising. Lots of family time always included games, with an emphasis on card games (taught to Gail, Dean and I by "his" mother). It's a family thing enjoyed by several generations. While living in Nocona - He and Loretta were active in the Nocona First Methodist Church. Loretta was from North Carolina, so every couple of years Dad and Mom would load up 3 kids, luggage, food, snacks and drinks for the 22-hour drive to visit our grand-parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. This was before convenience stores and fast food, so we stopped only for gas and to eat at road-side parks. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 10 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Nocona, followed by a funeral service at 11 A.M. officiated by Minister Valleri Sewell. Interment will follow in Nocona Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in Nocona or Burkburnett or Nocona Masonic Lodge#753.
